Pharmacological treatment follows Finnish Current Care guidelines where possible. The majority of patients are schizophrenic, which is associated with other factors shaping the need for pharmacological treatment, such as substance abuse problems, lack of aggression management skills and susceptibility to the adverse effects of pharmaceuticals. Pharmacological treatment is governed by commonly accepted treatment practices, and the choice of pharmaceuticals is made on a case-by-case basis, paying consideration to response, adverse effects and benefits. Proper medication is often required to enable the use of interactive treatment methods.
